People like John Hancock, Thomas Jefferson and Benjamin Franklin were the first _AMERICANS_.
This is talking about people who generally were not even U.S. Citizens until 1924, many of whom still are not AMERICANS regardless of their citizenship status.
As the old saying goes, “a cat can have kittens in an oven, but that don’t make ‘em biscuits.”
Anyway, I hope this museum has a prominent exhibit dedicated to time these people spent engaged in slavery. 👍🏼
